According to this article from 'The American Interest', a combination of greatly reduced spending on new weapons systems, along with sustained heavy use of current, aging, equipment, will lead to the highest tech portion of the US Military being unable to comtiue its role in the near future.
A number of high-ranking AF officials have already been fired for speaking of this in public.
