There's Hope!

Fay came back from England today. Since her flight came in at 4:00 PM, I figured I would miss the most of the trick-or-treat rush so I did not get very much candy. It turns out that we had more kids tonight, after 6 o'clock, than we had in previous years.

Needless to say I ran out of candy. As I gave the last piece of candy to a little girl dressed up as a vampireress, I said, "This is my last piece of candy." At the same time, two other kids came up to the door.

This girl turned and gave the piece of candy I had given her to the next kid, a little boy of about 4. Then she dug into her bag and gave the next kid a piece of candy from her stash.

I thanked her profusely. It certainly made my night.

  1. Wow, that's a good kid!

We also had more kids than usual this year. We typically only get a few, in addition to the five or six kids from the block. Last year we had none. At all.

This year we had a good 20 or so, and it total caught us short-candied (we had made up a dozen little bags of treats and figured that'd be more than plenty). Fortunately, our boys let us raid their bags (a bit reluctantly of course) to make up for the shortfall.

Anyhow, it's nice to hear there are still good kids out there.

  2. Aww, that is so sweet, Matt. Just renews your faith in the human race a bit, eh?

I'm so glad Fay made it home safe and sound, I can't wait to hear about the trip (and pictures!!lots of pictures!!).

Does she have to go right back to work? I hope not, it would be nice to take a day or two to "recover" from the vacation and jet lag...

  3. That's great that your kids are such good sports too, Alphie. Did all 3 get to trick-or-treat? Isn't your youngest 2?

Well, hope they all had a lot of fun.

  4. We don't get kids here, we're set back off a fairly busy road and there are no children among the immediate neighbors.

I kind of miss them, I hated living in Arlington but it was a housing development so we got TONS of kids. We loved it! (we also loved getting extra bags of candy "just in case", lol!)

  6. Matt, what a sweet girl!

I answered the door with my little black kitteh, but all the little kids ran screaming... wonder why...

  7. Aww, that's sweet! What a nice little girl!

I had one brat who tried to come to my door twice, so I called him out about it.

  8. Yes, florrie, the "baby" is 2 (already!) and all 3 did go Trick-or-Treating... but with us, and just down our little block. The school has an pretty nice event every year where parents can set up and decorate Trick-or-Treat "booths" in the parking lot and the kids from the school get to go around Trick-or-Treating right there. Some of the parents really get into it... some a little too much 8-O

  9. That's neat, Alphie. I always loved Halloween when we lived in Sequim as our neighborhood was very safe so the nieces and nephews always started and ended at our house.

  10. Always twice in one sentence. Sheesh.

OK, who else besides me got a bottle of sparking something (along with interesting munchies) to celebrate tomorrow night?
