Lady Red, I thought I recognized it. She has posted it elsewhere before, I believe, and if my memory is not in the same condition as the Swiss cheese I am eating for breakfast, then it may well be a picture of Ms Nista, herself.
Seriously though, what better reason to be a conservative than to try to save what can still be salvaged of America for the children just starting out?
Luther just emailed me and is having trouble with the emoticon menu and the comment box. If anyone else is having a problem, please email me, and your TCKT tech team will don our hard hats and do some code tweaking. :)
Suddenly the comment box is back. So, a test. And an admission of laziness/stupidness. I was thinking the emoticons were clickable... but no, I have to type for them to show up.
6 egg whites at room temperature 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar 2 cups white sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 tablespoon white vinegar
Preheat oven to 275 degrees F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and draw six 4 1/2 inch circles on the paper, turn the paper over (otherwise you'll have pencil marks on the meringues!)
Beat egg whites with electric mixer in a large mixing bowl - I used my Kitchen Aid stand mixer. When whites are foamy add the cream of tartar and continue beeting until whites are somewhat stiff.
Gradually beat the sugar into the whites (I found the meringues to be too sweet and will only use 1 1/2 cups sugar next time). Add the vanilla and vinegar and continue beating until the whites are very stiff and shiny.
Put mixture into a piping bag and pipe meringue into a round shell shape on the pre-drawn circles. Or you can just spoon the mixture to fit the circle and make an indentation with the back of the spoon.
Bake until the shells are lightly coloured, about 45 minutes. Cool completely on wire racks.
Just before serving fill with whipped cream (I usually add vanilla or Grand Marnier to mine) and top with sliced fruit.
Sheesh and I forgot to publically thank lady red and Lewy for all their hard work around here this weekend. Thanks so much you guys, everything looks great and works!
I crack up everytime I scroll down the page and see that baby holding up the kitchen table! That photo is priceless, I adore it.
Naw, it's Tom's work computer. Their office computer got stolen twice so they went to laptop which he brings home every night. He just installed a wireless router so it's great to use it elsewhere in the house. We want to trade in our home Dell relic and get a laptop for home; it would be much more convenient.
I am SOOOOOO looking forward to getting a Mac. For my purposes, I will get a desktop. I want to do media stuff -- video and audio -- and I think a desktop Mac is the ticket. I found a real good store in the local mall. The guy there was very helpful -- he even told me I did not need to get a pro -- that a Imac would do me just fine for about half the price of the Pro.
Pavlova - dessert guaranteed to make dogs salivate?
ReplyDeleteLewy, LMAO!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried pavlova (not much of a meringue/marshmallow fan) ,but that sure looks yummy.
Love the new header pic, of the baby in the oversized plastic pants under the table.
ReplyDeleteDances, isn't it adorable? Florrie sent it to me. It's THE perfect kitchen table. :)

ReplyDeleteEverything is working fine for me in Firefox. Dances, Jourdan, what browser are you guys using?
ReplyDeleteWhatever came with Windows 7, Lady Red. Either IE8 or IE9.

ReplyDeleteBut, now comment sentences are not wrapping.
I wonder what this will look like.
:-/
Yay! :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha... not so fast. :)
ReplyDeleteI have other issues which I am attemting to sort out so I can give you a report.
I'm testing here. But, I love how the recent comment names stand out now.
ReplyDeleteOkay... one more try.

Okay, I knew to have done this but forgot. I had to close the page and reopen... not just hit refresh. NOW everything seems to work.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Lady Red and Lewy... this is one of the snazzier 'blogspot' sites around.
:D
Thank you Luther; it's been a community effort, and a labor of love. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, great job and kudos to lady red and lewy!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all the extra treats here on TCKT...
Fay, did you have a recipe for that or were you just making us salivate? :)
ReplyDeleteI made your banana bread for the umpteenth time last night. I'm so glad to have a fail-safe recipe!
We are getting ready to go out for breakfast, so Fay will get back to you later.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Fay does have a recipe that I'm sure she will be happy to share. She had fun making the shells.
That photo is from Easter Weekend, IIRC.
You will have to send us some banana bread, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Matt, her recipes are beautifully presented.
ReplyDeleteHeh, knowing the USPS, it would be pretty dry by the time it arrived (even though you're only about 4+ hours away :-).
Enjoy your brunch!
Here you go florrie:

ReplyDeleteAnd guess who got a new, bright red, KitchenAid stand mixer?
And guess who got a new, bright red, KitchenAid stand mixer?
ReplyDeletePerfect! Then just follow the instructions for whipping egg whites in the Kitchen Aid book.
BTW, I absolutely love my KA, not sure how I manged to live without one for so long.
Yes, I've done them for years but always with my hand-held mixer!
ReplyDeleteI have lots of recipes to try and the pavlovas are on the top of my list.
Oooh, florrie's on a laptop. Is this new?
