Stimulus for Man

I was astounded and astonished and infuriated that the Obama administration decided to give a half million of stumulus money to somebody who should be having his PhD revoked.

Lets' review why the hockey stick was bogus. First is the reason I hold Mr. Mann culpable for. He said that he took all of the past data, tree rings and coral growth and ice cores and rolled them forward. For the last forty years, he substituted instrumentation from thermometers. Fair enough. But he didn't show that a continuation of his methods for prior years also showed no current warming. This was mendacity and should have led to revocation of his PhD.

The second was shown by Iowahawk (and others) -- the data was sufficiently tortured that it would always show the pattern of little change even if you substituted random numbers for all of the data. This was statistical idiocy and not mendacity. But it is hardly a recommendation.

I would like my half million back.

  1. People, for the most part, are too well educated to fall for a system of government that has, in the 100 year history of such governments, directly caused the deaths of millions of people.

However, if it is all about "protecting mother earth," many people are willing to flush their rights down the toilet.

If it were not for the internet (which is fairly new) and for conservative talk radio (which would not have been possible in the old days of the so-called Fairness Doctrine, we would not know what a fraud the environmental movement is.

That is precisely why the Obama administration and the Democrats in Congress want to put restrictions on talk radio and the internet. Unfortunately for them, the tide is turning. An example of this is the Supreme Court decision regarding campaign finance laws -- which led to the President's temper tantrum during his State of the Union speech.

  6. Aha! All fixed.

Levi, you have to delete the http:// out of the link box before you paste your link. If not, it has a double http//, and it doesn't work. :)

  7. It makes me mad too, levi. I was going to say, why aren't people screaming about this? But I think people are catching on to all the cronyism going on in BO's admin. How is this a job stimulus?

I agree, time - once again - to call our idiot senators. I finally heard back from mine; ironically, on the same day! And that was about a month or so after I emailed them.

This guy is the biggest hypocrite.

  8. Max Planc, who was a physicist in the early 20th century, is famous for the quote: "physics advances one funeral at a time".

Such is the job security of tenured professors and the power of entrenched scientific paradigms.

It's important to remember that what we're seeing in climate science isn't extraordinary, it's normal.

That said: I hope job security evaporates for Mann et al sooner than later.

  9. Oh, and the "Stimulus for Man" threadline right below the picture of Brittany is a howler of a juxtaposition. Serendipity gone horribly awry.

Well, the approx. $183,000.00 a year should keep him in stead for at least the next three years...

    Serendipity - LMAO!!!
