Photos from the Boston Globe. Most of you have likely seen most of them, but the Globe displays in a full picture view making the disaster all the more real for me. Pictures of Haiti
From what I've read today the logistical challenges are enormous. Though some on the scene are working on different approaches.
"Each country should, by now, be realizing that it is very much the correct option would be to stage multiple and overwhelmingly robust and well managed multi-national supply lines and helicopter sorties using locations and bases other than Port Au Prince Airport.... "
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about the use of helicopters, also. Why delay things because the airport is in no shape to ship things out? Copters can fly off aircraft carriers and go straight to where they are needed.
I hate the expression, "outside the box." Maybe we can say that they should "think outside the airport," instead.
Luther, the independent "boots-on-the-ground" assessment by Todd Shea certainly paints a clearer picture of what is actually happening. We were wondering about the condition of the roads between DR and Port-au-Prince; I'm glad they're open and passable.
ReplyDeleteYes on carriers, helicopters and roads. The problem is that even then it takes time. That's the one thing that there isn't much of before Port-au-Prince devolves into a very nasty place to be. So many variables working against a good solution of the problems.
