The Archaelogists Dug Up Grandma Eadgyth!

At least, they think they did.  The supposed bones of Queen Eadgyth of England were unearthed in Germany, wrapped in silk and lying in a lead coffin.  There has to be a spooky story in there somewhere....

  1. I wish I had a cool name like "Eadgyth". I guess I could throw some extra letters in my name, just to spice things up.

    How about this: Laedye Rhead

    I like it!

  2. Yeah, but you have to figure how those letters were pronounced in Old English.

I am currently reading A biography of Tolkien, and it was exactly that, a fascination with ancient languages, that led him to decide to create his own mythology.

In much sadder news, another of my favorite authors passed, yesterday, while sitting at his desk, writing.

I am trying to work up a post about that, in between work and packing to move.

  3. I have recently thought about pronouncing Matt's last name "mee an ee" rather than meanry. What do you think?

I am inspired, of course, by Steve Martin's pronunciation of the French restaurant in LA Story.."Lur id ee o" (L'Idiot).

  4. Er...damn, that should be meaney!

  5. LMAO, Fay! I was wondering if Matt's last name was like Sian's name with the unwritten "r" in there!

  6. I'm still trying to pronounce "Eadgyth"...

I think George Carlin had the definitive take on names.

"The census taker asks your name. "Janofsky." How do you spell that? "Smith."

I guess you had to be there :-)

  8. Fay, thank you for the reference to LA Story. Sunny and 70, sunny and 70, sunny and 70... :OD
I find myself quoting things from that movie so many times - I thought I must be the only person on the planet that even SAW it because no one seems to know what I'm talking about when I yell "VERNAL EQUINOX!" and pretend to start shooting people. Maybe I should just stop doing that :OP

  9. Okay, I don't actually do that. But whenever someone orders an overly frou-frou coffee drink, I hear the words "double half-caf with a twist" in my head. LA was bizarre about designer coffee about 10 years before Seattle had even discovered coffee is a beverage. :OP
