    1. Wow, what a great song. Great video too - there are a few versions of this song that I found on YouTube; none has more than a few thousand views... such a shame this music isn't more well known.

    2. Ii think the video I posted is beautiful. It just shows the love and respect for the poster's grandfather.

I remember the song when it was a hit and I still love listening to it.

    3. Oh, definitely. A very loving tribute and the perfect choice to represent the song.

Glad you listened to the post Matt - although I knew the musical genres weren't your thing (mine neither - jungle reggae? wtf) but I guessed that you were likely familiar with the original and thought you might find it interesting how the beats were reused over the decades.

  2. I had heard that about the riff before. I discovered that when researching the A side. Interesting thing. Can't say I particularly remembered it -- maybe I just don't pay attention to such things. I just wonder why they just don't get a drummer to do it? Maybe the logistics make it difficult. I play around with Garage Band on my Mac and coming up with drums is my biggest stumbling block. Garage Band does have some drum rifts, though.

I remember years ago hearing a story about someone who wanted to sample a single note fro a recording. He went through all the steps and contacted the owner of the recording. The owner replied, "We don't own a copyright on a C note."

    1. I bet if you wanted to use the cowbell from Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear the Reaper you'd need permission. :D

    2. I have a CD of Rock Hits from the '70's (including DFTR). My son called that CD "Cowbell Classics."
