To file or not to file
The State of New York passed a law that would enable the state to release Donald Trump's New York tax returns should coup conspirators, or should I say, committees of Congress request those returns. The President sued in a Washington DC federal court to get that law thrown out but a judge has dismissed that suit on the grounds that that court does not have jurisdiction in the matter.
This story is not over yet, and hopefully it will eventually turn out in the Presidents behalf. Should it not turn out that way I have a suggestion:
Americans should stop filing income tax returns of any sort.
Why?
We fill out our tax returns, under penalty of law, with the assurance that the information is confidential. As has been said many times, if they can do it to the President, they can do it to anyone.
Do you support the opposition party? Show us your taxes.
You are a critic of government policy? Show us your taxes.
If we are required to submit confidential information to the government, we should be able to do so with the expectation that such information is secret. If the tyrants in Washington are able to retroactively expose us, then we should have the right to deny the government this information in the first place.
Sic semper tyrannis. There may very well be a revolution coming. The plotters will not know what hit them. Vindman does not represent the military. Most of the military is like flyover country while the higher-ups are like the elitist coastal cities: they may think the majority is with them, but the majority is not.

It's a slippery slope to be sure.
ReplyDeleteNot wrong _per se_... but... if it comes to that, then (these domestic) terrorists have won.
DeleteWhy do I say that?
Because high compliance with a voluntary system was an exceptional feature of the Republic.
(Which the progressive wave is genuinely trying to drown. I get that.)
I other countries, cheating on taxes is a national pastime. I guess they want to do that here.
DeleteI have read that it is against the law for a felon to try and but a gun legally. However, for a felon to fill out the paperwork required to buy a gun legally would be asking them to violate their Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination. But we are expected to give our personal information to the government when we have reached a stage where people in the government feel it is within their power to expose the personal information of people they do not like. We should not have to face that possibility. If they cannot guarantee confidentiality then they should not be enititled to the information.
If the tyrants want to make this bed, they can sleep in it.
Matt, I wonder what would happen if millions of people were to legally file an extension on their taxes. Would 6 months of postponed revenue be enough to rattle the deep state, or would it just be a catalyst for yet more restrictive laws?
ReplyDeleteThere is no way to know where all this is going. The deep state is using Trump's impeachment to deflect attention away from the rampant financial/moral/evil/traitorous corruption of our "leaders". Our system of government has been hijacked for the enrichment of the few (ALWAYS follow the money!). The constant chiseling away of our constitutional rights, and the targeted destruction of BadThinkers, are salvos in a war we'd better start fighting.
Ruthlessly.
If they want a March on Washington, they’ll get a March on Washington.
