RIP Leonard Cohen

Cohen was the first poet I read that I connected with. I have owned a copy of "Beautiful Losers" since I was sixteen. Beautiful man, poet, and performer. I am sad. Some of my favourites. Sorry for my indulgance. Like I said on FB, I hate the commercialization of this song, but the poem remains.

  1. I'm sad too Fay. He was one of a kind.

  2. Supporting someone in their sadness is not indulgence. It is love.

  3. Yes, don't be sorry, Fay. Like Matt said, it is love. This post is a lovely tribute.

  4. There was always something about him...he had IT. He was talented, very sexy even in old age, and a poet for our times.

I'll miss him so much. Thanks for this tribute Fay,

    1. Look away Matthew :)

Soooooo sexy. Probably (for me) the sexiest man ever. When I was younger (and not so respectable) he was number 1 on my top five list of "in a New York minute".

    2. Inquiring minds wish to know the rest of the list! :))

    3. Ha! I'll spill if you will...

      Paul Newman
      Rod Stewart
      Marvin Gaye
      Robert Mitchum

    4. Gee. I would have thought I would have made it SOMEWHERE on the list.

And hopefully it would have lasted for more than a minute!

Husbands don't count in our imaginary boyfriend world ;-)

  5. Graham Greene
    Kevin Whately
    Adam Beach
    Torrance Coombs (robbin' the cradle!)

Sam Elliot used to be on my list, but he's kinda dropped off. He didn't maintain his sex appeal as he aged (IMHO).

    3. Yeah but it is not fair. You have all those Hollywood guys who are so good looking but the most beautiful ladies are here at the table!

    4. Kevin Whately??? can't be.

      Goes back, re-reads post.

Checks there is only one Kevin Whately.

      Shakes head and walks away.

      (teehee lr, really?)

    5. Hey, hey, HEY!

Did you watch the Masterpiece Theater series "Lewis"?

      Methinks not! ;)

    6. I was a big fan of Inspector Morse and loved John Thaw the actor who played him. Never could stand Lewis though LOL. I've seen a few "Lewis" episodes but (sorry about this) I just do not like Kevin Whately!

    7. Ugh, I didn't like Thaw at all. His character was a simpering, ill-tempered drunk. I couldn't watch more than a few episodes. However, I did enjoy Endeavor, in which Shaun Evans portrayed the young Inspector Morse.

      {{{Thaw is all yours Magic Fayre}}} :))

  9. OK ladies, your choices sound pretty good with the exception of Kevin Whately and Rod Stewart.

Never heard of Whately, Beach or Coombs ;-) Guess I need to get out more (or stay in more and watch different tv shows).

Fay, what about the guy you used to swoon over, I can't recollect his name. I used to post a pic for you of him sitting in a fancy chair, was he a Bond guy?

  10. Lady red, if you love Sam Elliot you probably know that he's been long-time married to The Graduate's "Elaine" (beautiful Katharine Ross). I thought he had aged really well; I bought The Big Lebowski and finally got around to watching it last week, he looked great!

    1. I've been watching the Netflix series The Ranch. It's really pretty good. Sam Elliot, Debra Winger, Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson. Sam has lost some of his pizzazz (but then again, so have I). *sigh*

    2. Well, I guess we can admit to 29 1/2 now. What do you say, lady red?

    3. LR, to answer your question: NO!

  11. I just looked it up and that movie was made 18 years ago! I could have sworn it was made just 5 or 6 years ago, LMAO!!! Anyhoo, he still looks pretty dang good for 72...

  14. Speaking of aging, did anyone catch the clip of Dr. Phil capitalizing on Shelley Duval's mental issues? Good lord, I didn't even recognize her, the poor woman. I've probably seen The Shining half a dozen times.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ugh. Dr. Phil is a predator in his own right. He pounces on people with unusual mental problems, or celebrities with issues. He's all about the money and fame. He's a vulture.

I've heard about Duval's problems, and my heart breaks for her. She has extraordinary talent and creativity, and I've always enjoyed her work. I hope she finds answers and peace.

Florrie, I think The Shining is one of the best movies ever made! Super creepy! Also, along with The Stand, it's one of King's best novels (before he started cranking out crap). IMHO of course!

    1. You said it exactly right, lady red; he's a vulture.

  16. I agree lady red, The Shining was a fabulous movie R-E-D-R-U-M....

And I would offer that The Stand is King's best novel (not that I've read anything new by him in a very long time). The Stand was otherworldly, exceedingly intense and disturbing.

  17. I have The Shining in my library list and will add The Stand. Thanks for the recommendation, ladies!
