I am very apprehensive about this vote. There is SO MUCH at stake.
LEAVE. Please G-d.
My feelings exactly. I found it sad that it's even close. Well, there's some time to go but at the moment the "exits" are slightly ahead. New results just went from approx 1% to 3% ahead to exit. Praying...
Results should be in around 7am GMT so we will know before we go to bed. Polls are neck and neck.
I really hope they vote Leave, though hubby prefers they Remain. He says the pound will crash if they leave and there will be huge destabilization. He works in the financial markets so I presume he knows what he's talking about. Nevertheless on this issue I differ from him. However that makes no difference since neither of us can vote! He also said that volatility is never good for the Jews, which is a very valid point. I guess we have to wait and see. He's actually in London at the moment and said it's really weird as there is absolutely nothing on the news about the vote. That's the law, so as not to tip the vote one way or another. So we're reading more about it outside England than those in it. It's really nail-biting now, waiting for the final results. But we won't hear till tomorrow morning earliest (that's the middle of the night for the East coasters).
The Telegraph has a brilliant cartoonist who always pokes gentle fun at the Brits. Here are some of his takes on brexit:imgw:"http://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/news/2016/04/21/2204-MATT-WEB-P1-large_trans++qVzuuqpFlyLIwiB6NTmJwfSVWeZ_vEN7c6bHu2jJnT8.png"Ouch! Zing! LOL! :))
And another one:imgw:"http://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/news/2016/05/28/2905-MATT-GALLERY-WEB-P1-large_trans++qVzuuqpFlyLIwiB6NTmJwfSVWeZ_vEN7c6bHu2jJnT8.png":))
Love those, annie!!!
Great toons annie!
Glad you liked my cartoons, Annie! ;) That first one is especially good.
I don't trust polls. Even if they are done with the best of intentions, the methodology has gotten lazy. I also doubt that many of them are done with the best of intentions. It is funny with Trump: people say he is a lose cannon but he is saying the things that should be said. So that makes him a lose cannon? It is safer to go with the status quo? People say how China and its ilk are concerned about Trump. That is a problem? The Chinese Government may be a lot of things, but concerned about the welfare of the United States is not one of them. If they are concerned about Trump I see that as more of a good thing than a bad.I read a piece a while back that said how Trump was Hitler, how he was dangerous, etc. etc. etc. At the end of the article, it was pointed out that the piece was actually written in 1980 but the name had been changed from "Reagan" to "Trump."
My theory: every time they attack Trump with ridiculousness, he gains another 10,000 votes.
I don't trust the polls either, Matt. They've been wrong time after time.As of this moment, the votes as 50%-50%. I've had my FILL of the idiotic woman on Fox Business channel dropping the "T" from Britain. WTF is that all about? It's been my pet peeve for the last several months. I notice it's almost exclusively millennial women that do it. Putin, Britain, Clinton, they drop the Ts (or Ds) from the middle of the words. img:"http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/floranista/emoticons/aridogsnewest.gif"OK, rant over ;-) The BBC is forecasting 53% leave.
I like listening to old radio shows. Something that drives me up the wall is when they drop the "r" at the end of words. If they dropped all t's I could understand it as a dialect, but to drop from the end but not the middle? They would say "murduh" instead of "murder." "Muhduh" I could understand, but muRduh?
Affectations. Lord save us.
Matt, that is totally a Boston/New England thing... for some reason, that upper north east accent seemed to be considered the educated accent for a time.My husband's from Maine, and even after not having lived there for 30 years, if he gets tired, the "r" comes off, and then gets put on anything that has an "a" ending. Two major cities are Bangor and Augusta, but they are always said as Banga and Auguster. I just think it's too cold to open their mouths and they mumble everything. :-D
"The BBC is forecasting 53% leave."If that holds true, the BBC are going to lose their collective heads and implode. Hah! And I don't even have to pay money to watch :) Live coverage from the UK available at https://www.filmon.com/tv/bbc-one
The BBC has lost their collective heads up their collective keisters a long time ago. A pox on all their houses! :))
Wouldn't they say "muhduh" rather than "murduh?" Murduh just sounds so phoney.
No, it's really the accent up there - keep the internal "r" sounds, drop the ending ones and add "r" onto words with an "a" at the end. We had some of his family here last week, and more than once, I saw the girls giggling at some or other pronunciation. When their father slips, they razz him ruthlessly. :-)
I'm reading that voter turnout in Scotland is lower than expected. That's a good thing. And that Swansea has voted narrowly to remain. Go Welsh! Who knew?
lol - Interesting times! Go or stay, it can't help but have major fallout. Maybe Canada can take UK on as a province if things go south. :-D
I just deleted your double-post Lyana. I have no idea why blogger has been hiccuping so much the past few days! I'm thankful for the free blogging platform though, so I won't complain too much. :)
Thank you! I seem to give the poor blog indigestion. :-) Ended up with double posts a couple of other places too. Oy!
I just read this on another site. I don't know the source of the info:Turnout : 71.1%Rejected ballots: 11,076England:Leave 6,377,614Remain 5,335,015Northern Ireland:Leave 310,825Remain 380,544Scotland:Leave 897,801Remain 1,511,388WalesLeave 732,310Remain 615,679
Markets are roiling and the bottom has dropped out of the pound. I think Brexit will carry the day! There may be some tough times ahead, but what is the price of FREEDOM? British patriots are giving the globalists and the banksters a big fat lip. We will not live on our knees!
Wow - just trotted over to the Daily Mail, and they are saying 51/leave to 49/remain with 25% counted...
This is looking VERY encouraging!! It's restoring my faith in my British counterparts.
Sky News projects votes "Out" win.
72% voter turnout? That's amazing... And projected margin widening to 52/48.
Another silver lining? As the pound drops, I'll feel better about getting some things I've been eyeing on amazon.uk. :-P
Hah! Good idea! :))
