We know Major Tom's a junkie...

Still can't  get my head around the fact that Bowie died.

  1. Have you seen the last two videos? Blackstar, and Lazarus. They're... challenging...

    1. I haven't watched them on purpose lewy. I saw some stills and read about the musical/album. Too soon after his death, especially since he knew he was dying when he made them.

  2. Sorry to be off topic, but will any who pray please offer a prayer for my nephew, Eric, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer today. He is 39, with a loving wife and a young son

  3. Very sad to hear that about your nephew, DWT. It's just a tragedy for someone so young to be so sick. Will definitely (try) to remember prayers for Eric.

  4. I didn't know this song, thanks for posting it.

Like lewy said, the latest videos are unusual - perhaps not for Bowie - but you might find Lazarus a bit disturbing, Fay. He certainly laid himself bare in that video.

    1. Wow florrie, I thought everyone knew this song. It was a HUGE hit in the UK(# 1) but I guess it wasn't a hit in the US. Anyway I love this video, he seems so happy and relaxed and having fun.

    2. I need to get out more!

BTW, that's a gorgeous picture you just posted on the sidebar, especially now with our cold, short days.

    3. It was gorgeous there florrie, a beautiful church with lovely grounds and gardens. I'm pretty sure this is the church where a) I was wearing a sleeveless dress but I had a wrap with me to put on before we entered the church, b) forgot to put wrap on and proceeded through the door to the church with bare arms, c) was roundly chastised by a four foot tall, 105 year old nun who bore more than a passing resemblance to Mother Theresa, d) apologised immediately and threw my wrap around my shoulders/arms, e) same nun saw my arm cast, asked me what happened and told me she would remember me in her prayers and gave me a side hug, f) left there feeling blessed.

    1. I agree lewy, I love this song. There is some controversy about the meaning. I've read a lot of stuff that says it is about kicking addiction although Bowie himself denied it. He said it was about letting go of childhood and growing up, giving up childish ways and becoming a man.
There was a lot (a lot, lot, lot) of drug allegory in so much of 60s, 70s and 80s music. It’s almost as though you could assign a drug use/habit kicking meaning to any song written in those decades.
