Pulitzer Prize Winning Columnist Gets Her Panties In A Bunch

Whether or not I agree with her opinions, Kathleen Parker is a good writer and a good columnist. This column about Paul Ryan made me wonder what her game is. Obviously the "talking point of the day" is the evilly evil Freedom Causus. *spit* But why is she encouraging Ryan to just say no?

I think the left (and the cucks) are scared sh*tless of Ryan. They should be. He may be the only one who can talk turkey with the patriots of the Freedom Caucus.

From her article:

"Methinks those who protest way too much will miss the generosity of those they stabbed in the back. Ryan, meanwhile, would do well to let history guide him. No good deed goes unpunished with this crowd. Soon enough, the Freedom Caucus gang will make life miserable for the next speaker, and then what?
Whoever takes the job had best have no further aspirations. This isn’t to diminish the office, which is a noble position and no meager endgame. But few think Ryan has no higher aspirations. Thus, the question isn’t should he run for speaker but why should he?"
I think Ryan would be great as Speaker, and I'm fairly confident he'll answer the call to serve. He's that kind of guy.

Perusing the list of Freedom Caucus members, I noticed that my congressman is not on the list. Time to send him another email. I sure as hell hope somebody runs against him in the next election; Steve Womack has been a disappointment. We have 4 repub reps from Arkansas, and not one of them has the balls to fight with the Freedom Caucus.

From wiki, here is a list of the brave men fighting for us:

  1. I wrote this post on my sparkly brand new chromebook. I love this thing! LOVE. It's lightweight, it's zippy, it's cool. It took me 3 minutes to set it up. I don't need to install any bulky security. It has a bunch of sweet apps too. I'm a happy camper! :)

  2. Well, the members of the Freedom Caucus are a small minority in the House. I think all views should be listened to. I wasn't a fan of Boehner but I think he did more in the House than McConnell is doing in the Senate to try to include the views of the more conservative members. There are members that dislike Ryan as well. I think the HFC is in support of Daniel Webster, not Ryan.

Initially I supported Ryan as Speaker but I didn't realize that position would take him away from his family much more than now (due to fund-raising responsibilities, etc.) and he has small children, His position as the chairman of the Ways & Means committee is important and that is his forte, after all.

    Just my 2 cents :-)

    1. I'm happy to listen to the Freedom Caucus opinions...but I wonder if any of them are wiling to listen to mine?

I fully agree with their end game, but their strategy is weak to non-existent. VERY disappointing from my point of view.

People slammed Boehner for caving to the Democrats...but what choice did he have really? If he was to get anything through the House he had NO choice. Not saying he was a good Speaker, but given what he had to work with, I can't fault him entirely either...look at who ISN'T willing to take the job now.

    2. I'll not be surprised if Paul Ryan doesn't step up for the Speaker position...he has a job to do, a very important one, where he is and he has a family...which conservatives all say, me included, is the apex of life. So what's up now? Why do Republicans insist on self destruction?

    3. The HFC would be thrilled with Webster, but I believe that they would compromise with Ryan. That would be a good first start. While Ryan is great where he is, we need him to step up to the Speakership. Being a patriot is not an easy calling. Our founding fathers (and our military) are prime examples. Sometimes your country must come before your family.

Ryan could appoint someone really good to chair his committee, and keep a close eye on things. It will be interesting to see how things play out.

  3. Wow, nice computer, lady red! I really need a new one, the hinge on this HP has been FUBAR for over a year but I just haven't felt like we should spend the $$ on that right now. Plus, I can't decide what to get, I've been thinking about a MS Surface tablet...decisions, decisions...I'm no good at making 'em.

    1. Thanks! I'm really enjoying it. I still have my monster Toshiba at home for the heavy lifting like Creative Cloud etc. For blogging, researching, email, and general doinking around the internet, this little baby is great! :)

    2. I have an old mac book air for similar purpose - it was more $$$ but its five years old and still going strong!

Can't say that about many machines these days...

  4. I'm not sure what to make of the "Freedom Caucus" ... other than they appear to be rank amateurs. 40 to 47 members does not get you anywhere if all you do is obstruct...but it does destroy a party. Rather than take on Planned Parenthood a piece at a time, say $50 to $100 million less for now and more later...e.g., the first bite of the apple is the key...they insist on the whole shebang. Back to 3rd grade math guys...47 divided in to 435 members does not a majority make....let alone 218. One result...you lose...so stuff your pride, you've accomplished nothing. I'm rather conservative (hard core) on fiscal matters and even I know better than to try their stunt...and that is all it is ...a stunt. No win.

FC...listen up, you were elected to accomplish something, so find a strategy that does that, even if piece by piece...at least you can then say you did something. Right now you can't claim diddly squat but posturing. I worked for the "feds" for too long to think that major changes occur in big chunks...but they DO if taken a piece at a time. The time for change is certainly now, so lets start some instead of just posing.

    1. I must step back from my position on the "Freedom Caucus" and here's why: Just watched an afternoon full of political commentary tv shows...and something hit me...almost all the pundits said the establishment Republicans have ignored or otherwise diminished the "Freedom Caucus" ...e.g., not even letting them bring a bill to the floor. If that is the case, my argument is weakened significantly and now I must blame them all for obstinacy and doing nothing.

      Are we just totally screwed?

I am willing to make that change of heart...since at my core I am an ardent fiscal conservative. The pundits indicated the hostility of the Freedom Caucus is in part caused by establishment disrespect. It's really too bad that this just seems to have to occur in DC.

    2. Ari I think it has to get worse before it gets better.

The "establishment" is willing to sell everyone out sooner or later. This is true of the Dems as well.

And at this point I think the "establishment" is perpetrating a giant control fraud on the American people; hollowing out and selling off the country piecemeal.

While the hard left and the hard right disagree vehemently on policy, they are in agreement with the above.

The media can be trolled into destroying the establishment Republicans. (This is because the establishment cares what they say, while the Freedom Caucus does not.)

The hard left must be trolled into destroy the establishment Democrats, whose hypocrisy and apostasy know no bounds. The establishment Democrats will never be touched by the media, but the base will tear them to shreds if sufficiently agitated (e.g. Feel the Bern). I suggest this is a project for the trolls of the Breitbart tradition.

    3. Lewy, I agree with your POV. This is how I see things.

Ari, the Freedom Caucus is all we have at the moment, warts and all. They are at least making an attempt to represent their constituents. Most of the congresscritters care only about their own pockets and their own self-inflated prestige, on both sides of the aisle.

    4. I'm glad the Walking Dead is back with a new season. '

So much simpler in that world.

      Sigh.

    5. Lady Red...if the "Freedom Caucus" is all we have we're in trouble. Someone needs to teach them a bit about "strategy"...it is the only way they can represent us effectively and make inroads in the establishment. As it is now, a pox on both their houses is they obstruct each other. Democrats just sit back and giggle.

    6. Yes, We're in trouble because there are not enough of them. I want them to stand their ground and not negotiate with the corrupt, evil, money-grubbers in congress. We don't need "inroads" into the establishment. We need to conquer the establishment. And then kick 'em when they're down. Hard.

      Delete
    7. Without "inroads" we can accomplish nothing...just more fighting among those who otherwise should be on the same page. It's not about "negotiation" but it is about winning the goal and that won't happen so long as we are divided by arbitrary lines...e.g., convince the others to go along to get along. Standing aside and screaming seldom produces this effect. WE elect conservatives and then they promptly shoot themselves in the foot. Won't work.

  5. Why do Republicans insist on self destruction?

Exactly. We need less grandstanding and more accomplishment.

    1. They're accomplishing something...Obama's (and the progressive left's) agenda. They've rolled over like stray dogs waiting for an "atta boy" belly rub from the NYT or HuffPo. When the base calls them out for it, they resort to calling their BASE names. Self-destruction indeed. Ptooey.

    2. Meanwhile back at the ranch... kinda warming up with the whole "cuck" label...

That said, with respect to Ryan: Matt Drudge has some disparaging headlines about him out yesterday and today as well. Somehow I'm getting the idea that he's the briar patch that the "cucks" might want to get thrown into...
