Lana Del Rey - High By The Beach

  1. I don't know what this is! The song is ok although I think she borrowed some of her phrasing from Sia. What's with the helicopter? Why doesn't she have more furniture? I bet she didn't like running barefoot on all those rocks and when her robe caught on the railing she almost fell down! Who the heck directed this? The gun didn't really fit in the guitar case either. I demand reality for my music videos :-)

Heh, I did give it a watch though, lewy...I liked it much better than punk or electronic...

LMAO! That totally hit my funny-bone.

I think the gun is from Grand Theft Auto - she has/had friends in the video game industry, and so I think it's a kind of shout-out to them.

  3. I've become my parents, when I'd be playing Zep and they'd tell me "turn that noise down!" :-)

I looked at her wiki page and she is currently the most streamed female singer on Spotify (whatever that is). Guess I need to get out more but I honestly can't relate to a "gangsta Nancy Sinatra" (although I admit that would have to be a vast improvement over the real Nancy Sinatra).

    1. Heh, yeah, I can relate - there is some new music which I can appreciate, but not actually listen to. (e.g. "Dubstep").

That said I like Lana; in an age where being white, cisgendered, heteronormative, attractive, soft, quiet and vulnerable is completely deprecated and discredited, I find her a breath of fresh air. :P

I posted some of her stuff last year - lots of her songs on YouTube. She sang the theme in Angelina Jolie's Malificent. Dark, pretty voice - perfect.

  4. I agree, a pretty, vulnerable voice. I did like the song, I just found the video strange but I suppose that's what they were aiming for.

  5. I enjoyed this video! Hearing words like "bullshit" and "m..f..er" sung by such a sweet voice was startling, to say the least, but it made me smile. I loved it when she blew the copter out of the sky! KA-BLOOEY! :D

  6. Well I wasn't "High By The Beach" but I was just by that beach last week. Malibu on the Pacific Coast Highway. Love California. Hate the politics, love the State.
