Jorma Kaukonen "Genesis" (1974)

This song was featured in the movie Transcendence.

It sounded familiar and with a little digging I found, yup, it was Jorma - I think I might have heard him play this at Cornell in '81.

It's very peaceful and I think you folks will dig it. (And I'm old enough to use that phrase without irony).

Lyrics below...

Time has come for us to pause
And think of living as it was
Into the future we must cross, must cross
I'd like to go with you
And I'd like to go with you
You say I'm harder than a wall
A marble shaft about to fall
I love you dearer than them all, them all
So let me stay with you
So let me stay with you
And as we walked into the day
Skies of blue had turned to grey
I might have not been clear to say, to say
I never looked away
I never looked away
And though I'm feeling you inside
My life is rolling with the tide
I'd like to see it be an open ride
Along with you
Going along with you
The time we borrowed from ourselves
Can't stay within a vaulted well
And living turns into a lender's will
So let me come with you
And let me come with you
And when we came out into view
And there I found myself with you
When breathing felt like something new, new
Along with you
Going along with you

  1. Well, I left a comment last night and now it's gone. Seems like it either double posts or doesn't show up at all!

I wondered if this was the same musician from Jefferson Airplane ('Jorma' doesn't seems to be a real common name). The song reminds me allot of Arlo Guthrie. I was enjoying it until the video showed him wearing his Che shirt.

  2. I would think that he was, Florie. His name ain't exactly John Smith.

As for the Che shirt, you are like all conservatives: you let facts get in the way.

  3. Yyyep. That's him. Was also in Hot Tuna with Jack Cassidy. As to the Che shirt, well, hippy is as hippy does...

  4. I've been sick as a dog. Just a cold or bronchitis but with COPD it turns into something else entirely.

Yesterday was hump day so today has been great. Glad to turn the corner on this one, better days ahead! Even worked in the garden for an hour tonight, it was just too gorgeous out there to stay on the couch...
