Winter Weather Humououour

I've been watching Jim Cantore on The Weather Channel this morning, and laughing at his antics. Don't you love Jim? He's trying to remain upright in a blizzard in Plymouth, Massachusetts,  He's covered with snow, and I don't think he can see out of his frozen glasses. The snow is falling in buckets, and the wind is howling. However, in spite of the brutal conditions, he's dancing! He's pumping his fists in the air! He's running, and leaping, and twirling in circles! He's screaming "YES! YES! YES!" What could make a middle-aged man and seasoned weather reporter act like a little kid?

Why, THUNDERSNOW of course!

And here in the South, we're battening down the hatches for freezing rain and snow this afternoon, tonight, and tomorrow. Winter storm Octavia is bearing down from the the frigid nether-regions to give the budding fruit trees and roses a reality check. Everyone in the Ozarks has purchased their obligatory extra gallon of milk, flashlights have fresh batteries, la casa Redhawk has stocked plenty of food for my spoiled pups Molly and Bella, and my little power converter is charged. The wood stove is ready for action in case the ice accumulations take down the power lines, which seems to be a yearly occurrence in February.

I have a good book that I just started (Defending Jacob, by William Landay) and a great supply of tea, cocoa, and coffee. I have tortilla chips, cheese, and jalapenos to indulge my nacho cravings, as well as other fun "snowed-in" foods. I have projects to work on, and big furry warm socks to wear with my jammies.

Bring it, winter! My 8" high cucumber and tomato plants in the kitchen know that spring is right around the corner.

Beautiful redbud blossoms...any day week month now! Hah!

  1. I'm sorry you are experiencing such bad weather, lady red. Fortunately for us here on the west coast, we have been spared for the time being. However, we've already had 3 freezes, the first coming in October. The plants hadn't hardened off yet and I've had a dozen or more rhodies severely damaged because of it. I won't know if some survived until June or so when they bud out.

Because of our balmy weather lately, all my tulips are up and the flowering cherry tree on the fence line is in bloom. Weird!

Stay warm, lady red, I'm sure you'll be prepared...

  2. Thundersnow? Wow, that's a new one to me.

As I mentioned to someone the last time I was in Halifax, NS, I don't do snow. I don't walk in it, drive in it, play in it, ski in it or shovel it!

    1. I don't do snow either Fay. When I retire, at the young age of 95 or so, I'll be packing my Geritol and orthopedic stockings for warmer climes. Somewhere on the Gulf probably, or maybe even southern Arizona. :)

  3. Hey there lady red!

Since you last checked in, Fay and I have turned TCKT into a music blog, devoted to our growing appreciation of each other's favorite tunes.

In other news, hell froze over. :D

And with it, apparently, much of the east coast. Glad you are all prepared!

I love your redbud photo - it will be spring before you know it.

    3. :) You all are awesome.

Glad you're keeping warm lady red.

We made our "Hobbit chili" today - ground lamb, ground buffalo, beef broth, crissspy bacon, onions, carrots, peas...

      ...in short, vegan repellent.

My better half doesn't like lamb so I seldom fix it even though I am fond of it...
