Annie! You're Famous!

The good professor has Anne's Opinions on his front page! Three cheers! From Legal Insurrection:

With Israel on the cusp of a major conflict in Gaza and maybe beyond, pay a visit to and say a prayer for our blog friends in Israel, who are updating the events:

Israel Matzav — also known as Carl in Jerusalem.
Anne’s Opinions — also known as Anne in Petah Tikva.
IsraellyCool — also known as Aussie Dave.
The Muqata — also known as Jameel, “Wherever I may be, my blog turns toward Eretz Yisrael ”
An Israeli Soldier’s Mother –  Also known as Paula.

The Israel Defense Forces have taken to Twitter (@IDFSpokesman) to frame the narrative before the anti-Israeli international media can do so, and it’s driving them crazy.

  1. Heh. Thank you Lady Red. :). No one was as surprised as me when I opened the Prof's blog this morning. No wonder my hits shot up today! I feel so humbled and honoured.

  2. Meanwhile things are seriously hotting up here. Yesterday I tempted fate by saying that we're pretty safe in the center. Today a missile fell in Tel Aviv!.

Actually, on reading the article, they say 2 missiles fell. I can't say I heard them, nor the sirens, but suddenly I've gotten extremely nervous.

I've just had the surreal conversation I always hoped never to have: I discussed with my son where we're going to shelter if there's a siren in the middle of the night. We've decided we'll take our chances with the neighbours and head for the bomb shelter downstairs. I'm going down now to unlock it. Hubby's abroad on business and I don't like this feeling one bit.

Both my daughters and my elder son phoned earlier offering me refuge. they all live in settlements around the West Bank, and that's probably the safest place in the country. If it gets seriously bad here I'll head out to my older daughter. She's got a big house and a safe room. My son lives in a caravan (aka a trailer) and my younger daughter is living in a tiny studio flat. It would get a bit squashy in there.

But it's madness that we even have to contemplate this.

  5. 'Morning everyone. Well, we had a very quiet night thank G-d, but for obvious reasons I didn't sleep very well. I was sleeping with one ear open, and also the window and door open, to make sure I'd hear a siren. (Although from experience the siren is extremely loud indeed).

Although my daughter's offer of refuge still stands, I decided to stay put for Shabbat (I've been invited out for meals in hubby's absence), unless things change dramatically over the day.

There were plenty of rocket attacks on the south overnight but none reached as far as here. You'd think after the IAF's intensive bombing, there'd be no rockets left. You'd be mistaken (as indeed I was). The terrorists seem to have an inexhaustible supply. My only question is where was our gov't during all these years when the rocket arsenal was built up? They obviously knew about it and knew exactly where they were stored because the IAF is bombing continuously in hundreds of sorties, all of which are pinpoint attacks, i.e. they knew exactly where they were.

Which leads me to the sad conclusion that our leaders are more concerned about international opinion than their own citizens' safety. Up to a point of course.

  7. Sh!t. 2 missiles on Tel Aviv. I heard one of them. Time for me to head out to my daughter for Shabbat. Her husband is an army chaplain but serves also a combat officer. A platoon of his soldiers have been sent down to Gaza and he's received a reserve platoon to take their place. (This is where the reservists are going, to take the place of the regular soldiers). So he has to be on duty over Shabbat in the base, organizing the new soldiers, leaving my daughter + 5 kids on their own. So I'll be doing double duty as babysitter and refugee.

All I need now is a bowling alley! :p

  8. Anne, my family and I are praying for your safety, and that of all the people of Israel. You can bowl later my friend; for now, keep your head down!

I worry about Obama's response if this escalates.

  9. I just heard about them hitting Tel Aviv as well. It's just going to get worse, I'm afraid. This is a terrible situation, I hope Israel sends a loud and clear message that these missle strikes WILL NOT STAND.

G-D bless annie and all there.

  10. Thanks for the prayers and good wishes everyone. So far so quiet in my town anyway. My other kids did not have such a quiet time. My newly married daughter and my married son both had an air-raid siren just as Shabbat started yesterday afternoon. My daughter heard the missile fall too. I never dreamt that Hamas's missiles could reach as far as Jerusalem.

Meanwhile my parents heard the missiles in Tel Aviv today.

All I heard was 5 noisy little kids. :)

I blogged about it all over at my place. Let's hope for a quieter night.
