IRS chief: Buy health insurance or lose your tax refund

The Daily Caller
Individuals who don’t purchase health insurance may lose their tax refunds according to IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman. After acknowledging the recently passed health-care bill limits the agency’s options for enforcing the individual mandate, Shulman told reporters that the most likely way to penalize individuals that don’t comply is by reducing or confiscating their tax refunds.

  1. Those of us who pay taxes (and don't want to be forced into ObamaCare) will simply have to make sure we don't overpay. Do you hear that, Uncle Sam? No more interest-free loans.

For the 47% of the population who aren't taxpayers: why would they care? Their health "insurance" will be subsidized anyway.

The IRS threat is meaningless. When it doesn't produce results, they'll resort to more draconian measures, I'm sure.

  2. It'd be interesting to see a breakdown of that 47%, wouldn't it? I know the Very Wealthy do not pay taxes. They just know how NOT to. Then there's the Very Poor. Into which group we could probably lump a good percentage of the American "Middle Class".
